Indianapolis 500: The Simulation brought racing games from the limited arcade cabinets to the immersive home consoles. The game was originally released on the MS-DOS in 1989 but was ported to the Amiga in 1990.

It received positive reviews and has been considered not only one of the best Amiga games but also one of the best computer games of the ’90s. The realistic racing action made Indianapolis 500: The Simulation a stand-out game. Just a few years after its release Indianapolis 500: The Simulation sold more than 200,000 units.

The gameplay of Indianapolis 500: The Simulation focuses on being as hyper-realistic as possible. Players can take part in several different race settings like 10-lap race, 30-lap race, 60-lap race, and 200-lap race. The game also mimics real-life wreckages and mechanical failure. Both the players and the NPCs can crash their cars or are forced to retire from the race if a part of their car breaks down.

Indianapolis 500: The Simulation Main Character

Although there is no named protagonist in Indianapolis 500: The Simulation, the drivable cars fill that role. Players can choose from a yellow Penske-Chevrolet, a red Lola-Buick, or a blue March-Cosworth.
