F/A-18 Interceptor is a combat flight simulator based on the F/A-18 Hornet. It was released in 1988 for Amiga computers. The game was developed by Intellisoft and published by gaming giant Electronic Arts, known for titles like Battlefield, Apex Legends, and The Sims.

F/A-18 Interceptor Premise

The game is set in the San Francisco Bay Area and features popular landmarks like the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz Island. Electronic Arts’ headquarters are even shown. Players have four different airfields they can take off from, San Francisco International Airport, Oakland International Airport, Moffett Federal Airfield, and the USS Enterprise.

Players can either fly the F/A-18 Hornet or the F-16 Fighting Falcon. Different missiles like the AIM-9 Sidewinder and M61 Vulcan Gatling gun are available for air combat. There are six different missions for players to defeat terrorists that cause different threats. Some examples of the different scenarios are to ensure the President reaches San Francisco safely, rescue friendly pilots from enemy territory, or even take down enemy submersibles.

Easter Eggs & Exploits

  • If the user’s Amiga has more than 512KB RAM, a song similar to the “Top Gun Anthem” plays.
  • You can land and re-take off on the water.
  • When selecting a location to start a flight, pressing “0” will start the player in an uninhabited area at the Edwards Air Force Base that was scrapped from the game.
