David Gaider Leaves BioWare After 17 Years

David Gaider Leaves BioWare After 17 Years

There are many unsung heroes in the world of video game development. The first time you ever got to experience bullet-time was shaped by a handful of programmers pulling all-nighters to make sure that everything felt just right. Many of the iconic characters you take for granted were born on the digital canvases of young, hungry artists, and for every hour you spend lost in a fantasy world you can bet that dozens of hours of someone else’s life were given up in the creative process. In this secret world of behind-the-scenes heroes David Gaider was a true veteran, but has announced that after 17 years he is leaving BioWare.

Gaider began his work at BioWare in 1999 on Baldur’s Gate 2. He rose in notoriety after doing excellent work for Star Wars: Knights of the old Republic , writing the characters HK-47, Jolee Bindo, and Carth Onasi. He is probably most widely appreciated for his work on Dragon Age: Origins for which he created the world of Thedas, filled it with masterfully written characters, and supplemented its lore with a couple of books and graphic novels. Gaider gave no specific reason for his depature, but it’s clear from the response to his Twitter announcement that he’ll be greatly missed.
