Dead Island: Riptide Is A “New Game, Not A Remake”

None

Possibly lost in all the hubbub of last week’s E3 was the announcement of Dead Island: Riptide, a new entry in the open world zombie franchise. Aside from giving us platform specifications, a grim new logo and the promise of more info later this summer, publisher Deep Silver has kept mum on the new game.

Recently, online retailers have listed the game for only $49.99 (that’s $10 cheaper than normal, for all you math people), which has led people to speculate that Riptide may just be a remake of the original Dead Island, perhaps in a Dead Rising 2: Off the Record sort of way.

Today, though, Deep Silver’s Manager of Marketing and PR Aubrey Norris has downed such rumors, tweeting that Riptide “is a new game. Not a remake.” Norris went on to explain that the $50 price point is due to the fact that Riptide will release “at the end of the console cycle,” which would lead us to believe that the game will be dropping sometime by the end of next year at the latest.

Other than assuaging those fears, Norris had nothing else to say about the title, so it appears we’ll just have to keep on waiting for more details.
