Deep Silver Accidentally Releases Wrong Version Of Dead Island

None

If you were slightly annoyed by the strange patch that you were forced to install before you could murder zombies in Dead Island, this might make you giggle; Deep Silver accidentally released the wrong version. It seems that those of you who downloaded the game on Steam received a developer’s version, which may have included some debugging options and a few unpolished elements.

Players were tipped off to the mistake when several of them discovered that noclip mode was bound to the ‘Y’ key by default, allowing players to do a lot of things the game never intended. Obviously, this sent large portions of the Internet into fits of laughter, while others dug into the file system to see what secrets they might uncover. Some have speculated that Deep Silver accidentally released the Xbox 360 version on Steam, which would explain some of the strange control issues.

Deep Silver has confirmed the issue and is promising a fast fix:

We deeply regret that an incorrect version of Dead Island was inadvertently made available to players on Steam launch in North America. We are very sorry for any issues you may have experienced while playing the game – the correct, patched version will be made available to North American players ASAP.

The most recent patch corrected the noclip issue, but I think it’s safe to assume that a gigantic patch is on its way. In the meantime, you might want to fire up Left 4 Dead 2 to get your zombie-killing fix.
