Dead Island Ships 2 Million Copies? Maybe.

Dead Island Ships 2 Million Copies? Maybe.

None

The folks over at Deep Silver are breathing a bit more easily after kicking Dead Island off to a fairly rocky start. In a recent press release, Deep Silver predicted that they will have shipped 2 million units by the end of Dead Island’s first week of sales.

“Our new IP Dead Island has already proven to be a huge success on a global scale for Deep Silver only one week after its release in North America.” said Koch Media CEO Klemens Kundratitz. “With Dead Island a number 1 in several important retail territories, this success has also confirmed our standing as a global publisher and has once again proven our position as Europe’s No. 1 retail distributor.”

Part of me wants to be suspicious of this number and assume that it’s simply Deep Silver trying to save face after such a terrible launch. And my suspicion seems to be bolstered by the fact that a number of websites are reporting that Deep Silver has only shipped half of the 2 million copies that they claim.

Either way, I’m pulling for them. Dead Island is an extremely fun game, even if the developer might not have their act entirely together.
