Developer Says Watch_Dogs Multiplayer is Seamless

The upcoming Watch_Dogs (which was originally a next-gen launch title) looks to take you inside the world of computer hacking and espionage (while providing a unique multiplayer experience unlike anything you’ve played before).

Danny Belanger (Lead Gameplay Designer on the project) posted an update to Ubisoft’s blog, touting how players will seamlessly transition from their solo campaigns into the online component (without having to break the experience into different parts). “We don’t talk about it in terms of single-player and multiplayer. It’s all online. It’s seamless. You continue your game. That aspect, for me, is crucial because otherwise it’s a break in the experience.” says Belanger.

The game itself will deal with online players being able to drop into your game and covertly “hack” you in order to plant a virus. However, Belanger explains that if you’re not into the multiplayer aspect of the title (but why wouldn’t you be?), the engine has safe guard’s in-place as to not force this feature upon you (and thus ruining your experience). In what he calls a “shield,” he reveals that “…if someone comes into your game and hacks you, you’re protected. It can’t happen. The less you partake in the multiplayer, the longer the shield. If you’re not hacking people and you’re not into that gameplay, the game will recognize and acknowledge that you’re not into that. That’s fine.”
