DOOM 4 to Include In-Game Level Editor

Tonight’s E3 Bethesda showcase started off with a ton of in-game footage for DOOM 4 , as we saw our hero blasting up aliens on a derelict space station and in Hell itself. It’s nice to see that the DOOM 3 darkness is gone, and the series is returning to its run ‘n’ gun roots. All the old standbys like the super shotgun, chainsaw, and BFG are in, plus some great new tricks like the ability to rip off a dead guy’s hand in order to pass a security check or to stuff a grenade down a demon’s gullet.

Perhaps even more interesting in terms of the game’s longevity was the announcement of DOOM Snapmap , an in-game level editor. This editor is meant to be extremely easy to use, even for players with no modding experience, allowing wanna-be level designers to snap rooms together and start playing custom levels at the touch of a button. Various gameplay modes can be created with the editor, from co-op adventures to traditional death matches. Levels can be shared on Bethesda.net, the company’s new center for community-based content.

DOOM 4 will be release in spring of 2016 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
