Double Fine Looking Into Purchasing THQ Properties

Double Fine Looking Into Purchasing THQ Properties

The whole process of selling off THQ has become a bit complicated. While THQ originally had a buyer all lined up, it was determined that they were participating in an unfair bidding process. Now that the bidding process has opened up and the company will be sold piecemeal, property by property, several well-known companies have stepped forward expressing interest.

The first company of note is Tim Schafer’s Double Fine, which has requested some documents from the ongoing case. Many of you may remember that Double Fine and THQ worked together on producing Costume Quest and Stacking, two amazing indie titles. If Double Fine managed to get their hands on one of the more well-known THQ properties, like Darksiders, we could have a very impressive sequel on our hands.

Unfortunately, Double Fine is probably the smallest company looking to pick up the pieces of THQ. EA and Warner Brothers have also expressed interest in the proceedings, and they have far more purchasing power than Double Fine. So it’s unlikely that Tim Schaefer’s studio will take home one of  THQ’s more coveted IPs.

Bids are due on January 22 nd , 2013 by 9AM Eastern. It will be interesting to see where THQ’s properties end up.
