Dragon Age: Inquisition Wasn’t Pulled from India for Having Gay Character

At the time of writing, Dragon Age: Inquisition has been released to the world, save for some Dragon Age fans and enthusiasts in India, according to NDTV Gadgets.

The third installment to the Dragon Age main series has been pulled from India, and recent speculation has pointed that it was because the game itself features a gay character and same-sex relationships. EA issued a statement on the matter via Origin, according to the report, noting that those who pre-ordered the game in the countries affected will receive a full refund.

In order to avoid a breach of local content laws, EA has withdrawn Dragon Age: Inquisition from sale in India and the game is no longer available for pre-order, ” the publisher wrote in its statement. “ Customers who pre-ordered the game will be contacted directly and will be fully refunded.

According to NDTV Gadgets, EA had yet to comment or confirm which exact laws that are relevant to the matter were breached in the affected countries, but the publisher soon clarified on its decision to not release the game a little later. As it turned out, the game was pulled because it breached India’s “ obscenity laws. ” However, specific laws the game was in violation of weren’t detailed, other than that it went against the country’s penal code.

The decision here is in relation to local obscenity laws, but not specific to same-gender romance, ” explained an EA spokesperson, according to GameSpot. The spokesperson then affirmed that Dragon Age: Inquisition’s same-sex and gay content was “ irrelevant ” to EA’s decision to not ship the game to India.

Dragon Age: Inquisition is now available on PC, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. We’ll bring you more news on the game should further information reach our ears.
