Intel Removes Ad Campaign Promoting Fair Gender Representation

Intel Removes Ad Campaign Promoting Fair Gender Representation

As reported by The Verge on Thursday, October 2, hardware manufacture Intel has removed an advertising campaign from Gamasutra after it received numerous complaints about the advertisement content, which was promoting fair gender representation in video games.

According to The Verge, Intel made the decision to remove the ads from the gaming website due to a coordinated effort, coined as “Operation Disrespectful Nod”, which was apparently headed by supporters of the #GamerGate hashtag.

The effort encouraged people to contact companies that place ads on gaming-focused websites, such as Gamasutra and Kotaku, to reportedly complain about five specific articles suggesting that the concept of the “gamer” as a personal identity is fading away.

Intel has pulled its advertising from website Gamasutra, ” an Intel spokesperson told Re/code . ” We take feedback from our customers very seriously especially as it relates to contextually relevant content and placements.

Gamasutra later confirmed the ad removal over Twitter after receiving an inquiry on the matter.

@BuckSexington Yes, our partners at @intel were flooded with complaints over a recent opinion piece, and they did pull an ad campaign.
