Early Steam Analysis Hints at 2015’s Biggest PC Games

Sergey Galyonkin of Steam Spy has done some preliminary end of the year analysis on the most activated games on Steam in each country. These are fairly rough estimates, and Galyonkin notes that he did his best to filter out free games and giveaways. Also, the data represent activations from April 1 to December 20, so the winter sale will probably have a fairly significant impact on the numbers, but not a big enough impact to shift the top spots. In the United States, the obvious number one seller was Fallout 4, with roughy 969,000 activations as of December 20.

Across the pond, our friends in the UK loved Grand Theft Auto V, but Fallout 4 came in at a close second. Combined, though, those top two games had a cumulative half-a-million downloads. Interestingly, Rocket League did very well, earning the fifth place spot in the US and the UK. When it comes to worldwide sales, there was one game that took off and outsold all others by a wide margin. Counter Strike: Global Offensive was activated over 5.5 million times, holding the top spot in France, Brazil, Turkey, Poland, Germany, and Russia. Galyonkim will be back in January with a more thorough, end of year analysis, so we’ll see how these numbers change over the next week.
