Good Old Games For The Holidays

Good Old Games For The Holidays

None

Everyone knows of the Steam holiday sale. It’s the best part of the year, when every PC game you didn’t buy during the fall gaming season goes on sale in a week-to-weeks-long promotion with daily specials and crazy discounts.

This year, though, GoG.com is having its own party, and while Valve is notoriously tight-lipped about the specifics of their sales until they’re in progress, CDProjekt has gone ahead and run down their entire spiel. The salient points:

  • The Witcher 2 goes on sale for 40% off for 48 hours from 6:00am EST Thursday, December 8. It also includes its predecessor, The Witcher Enhanced Edition, for free.

  • Giveaways run through the weekend of December 10, including copies of Master of Orion I and II and Realms of Arkania I and II, plus codes for $5.99 and $9.99 games. The giveaways will be done through social media, including Facebook, Twitter, and the GoG.com forums.

  • Everyone can pick up a free copy of Empire Earth Gold Edition from 6:00am EST Monday, December 12 until 5:59am EST Wednesday, December 14.

  • Last, but certainly not least, beginning next Monday, virtually the entire GoG library will be available for 50% off until January 2, 2012. If there are any legacy games that interest you, it’s the best time to buy them. Personally? I recommend Wing Commander 1 and 2.

It’s one heck of a sale, and a great way to fill out the gaps in your library of classic games. Baldur’s Gate and its sequel, Planescape: Torment, the Interplay Fallout games, and more are all available for download and, until January 2, at a tremendous discount off of an already low $6-$10. Best of all, GoG’s software is DRM free.
