Eidos Knows The DX:HR Bosses Sucked

None

It’s rare for a developer to openly come out and say, “yes, we knew this was a bad idea at the time,” but that is exactly what Eidos Montreal has done with regard to the infamously bad boss battles of Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Further, producer David Anfossi is taking the blame from the external developer Eidos contracted to create the boss fights and placing it squarely back on the dev team’s shoulders.

“We totally underestimated the effort to do that correctly,” he says of designing the boss fights. “We had to work with an external supplier with that, but the design and everything is from the team at Eidos Montreal.”

He continues on to state that they knew the fights would be a weakness for the game, before release, “First, the boss fights were forced, which is not the Deus Ex experience. Second, there is no mix [of] solutions to tackle the boss fights, which is not Deus Ex Either.” Despite that, he is adamant that a compromise was necessary to get the game out the door, but that it was, in the end, the team’s decision.
