Fallout 4 DLC Quest Closely Resembles New Vegas Fan Mod

Fallout 4 DLC Quest Closely Resembles New Vegas Fan Mod

Okay, so the quest goes like this: Your character starts off outside of a vault talking to someone over an intercom. Upon entering you’re swept up in a murder mystery, investigating the untimely death of one of the vault’s prime financiers. Part of your investigation requires that you speak to all of the vault’s robotic dwellers, which can only be told apart from one another by the the differences in their voice modulators. You get to know the robots pretty well, and you even get a little bit of sexy time with one of them. Sounds pretty specific and unforgettable, right? The thing is, I could be talking about the quest “Brain Dead” from Fallout 4 ‘s Far Harbor , or I could be talking about the Autumn Leaves mod for Fallout New Vegas , created by modder Guillaume Veer about a year ago.

The two quests have a lot in common, and even share some striking visual similarities. Veer was shocked by just how similar these two quests were, and turned to the Fallout community to ask if he’s been ripped off. Pete Hines came back with the following response (via Gamespot ): “We love our mod community and would never disrespect them. I checked, and any similarities between the two are a complete coincidence.” Well, I guess if he checked…

Veer has come back to clear up the fact that he’s perfectly fine with it. “I seriously think this is perfectly okay,” he said. “After all, Autumn Leaves’ inspirations are countless…” He wouldn’t mind a little recognition, though. “Being acknowledged in the game’s credits, for instance, would be a very nice — and costless — move towards us modders. Many of us are making mods, often taking years of our free time in order to get a job in the industry, and this kind of recognition would really [give] us a tremendous boost.” It sounds to me like, according to Pete Hines, this is an open and shut case, so I wouldn’t count on seeing that shout out in the credits.
