Final Fantasy XIII PC Version Is…. Weird

Square-Enix has just released Final Fantasy XIII to Steam, so PC gamers can finally get their hands on the game and mod it. Unfortunately, as far as a PC game goes, it doesn’t have a whole lot to offer.

First of all, it doesn’t have any extra content, so scratch that off your list.

Second of all, it barely has any PC graphics options. When we say this is a port of the console version, we mean as straight of a port as possible. Outside control options for a keyboard and mouse, there are absolutely no options for changing graphics or otherwise fine tuning the experience for your particular rig, which will disappoint both people who are trying to run the game on an old computer, as the game will slow down no matter what you do, and the people who are trying to run the game on the newest rigs out there, as you still won’t look any better than joe schmoe’s mid-line computer.

Third of all, certain key combinations just do… weird things. Pressing the escape key quits to steam with absolutely no ceremony while pressing Alt+F4–the commonly accepted key combination for HOLY CRAP CLOSE THIS PROGRAM NOW–brings up a dialogue screen that asks you if you want to close the game.

Weird…

Luckily the modding community is already on it and a patch is already available which allows you to increase the game’s resolution. Hackers, always willing to insert functionality that AAA companies just didn’t.
