Final Fantasy XIV Could Be Coming to Xbox One

Final Fantasy XIV Could Be Coming to Xbox One

Final Fantasy XIV has proven it has staying power on PC, PS3, and PS4. Currently players on all platforms can all play with each other, which is one reason for its great success. Considering the game debuted on PC, it does seem strange that it never made its way over to Xbox One, especially considering how well it’s done on consoles. Until recently, Square Enix submitted that it was the Xbox One’s inability to support cross-platform play that kept Final Fantasy XIV at bay. That is no longer the case, and it we may see Final Fantasy XIV on Microsoft’s console some time soon.

Game director Naoki Yoshida told Polygon that they’re hammering out the details with Microsoft as we speak. “Microsoft actually approached the Final Fantasy XIV team about the cross-platform opportunity,” he said. “When our team reviewed the regulations that are associated with that, we realized that Microsoft may not have the experience or understanding of running an MMORPG as an online game genre just yet. The …team has fed back to Microsoft that there are certain elements of its regulations that we would have to consider waived. We’re waiting on Microsoft’s response for that, but we are having discussions.” So nothing is set in stone, but both parties are interested. Let’s hope for the sake of Xbox One gamers that Microsoft is able to review its regulations favorably.
