Firewatch Gets Post-Game Free-Roam Mode

Firewatch Gets Post-Game Free-Roam Mode

Campo Santo’s Firewatch is a brief and beautiful adventure that touches on some deeply human themes: love, loss, isolation, and the need for connecting. It tells a complete story while leaving just enough ambiguity to fuel discussion, although its relatively short runtime tends to leave players (myself included) wanting more. The developers have taken a big step toward addressing that feeling today, as they’ve surprise-launched a new patch for Firewatch that adds a free-roam mode on both PS4 and PC.

This new mode, accessible after beating the game, will allow you to simply wander around the Wyoming wilderness and take in the gorgeous sights. Because Firewatch ‘s story mode requires the player to follow something of a linear path, this new feature opens the game up completely. It also makes it into something of a showcase for the PS4 Pro, because the game has also been updated with 4K support. Its visuals are sharper than ever, with higher-quality shadows, enhanced detail distance, faster load times, and a higher maximum resolution.

Firewatch is a beautiful game, and if you’ve got a PS4 Pro on the way today, this might be the perfect game to test your new console’s capabilities.
