Former Microsoft Employee Arrested for Allegedly Stealing Windows 8 Trade Secrets

As reported by SeattlePi , a former senior architect at Microsoft, named Alex Kibkalo, has been arrested for allegedly leaking Windows 8 trade secrets to a tech blogger, and now faces federal criminal charges.

Arrested on Wednesday, March 19, Kibkalo stands accused of stealing company trade secrets while working at Microsoft. He allegedly leaked Windows 8 code to a French technology blog back in mid 2012. The code in question is allegedly Microsoft’s “Activation Server Software Development Kit,” a system used to prevent unauthorized copying of Microsoft software.

According to charging papers, Microsoft came to believe that Kibkalo sent the codes to the aforementioned blogger and encouraged said blogger to share the code online, so that others could potentially crack protection procedures on Microsoft products.

Kibkalo has been charged with theft of company trade secrets and is expected to appear in U.S. District Court later on for an initial hearing. The full report on the matter can be found on SeattlePi’s website here .
