Forza 4 Trailer Footage Stolen!

Forza 4 Trailer Footage Stolen!

None

The Forza 4 trailer didn’t feature much actual gameplay footage, but reports are surfacing that the footage it did feature was unlicensed content taken from a web series known as Turn9 (no relation to Turn 10, the developers behind the Forza franchise).

Apparently, the stolen footage was put there by mistake, as Microsoft worked with French production house Clash Productions, which promoted the Turn9 web series on its YouTube page, but didn’t create the footage in-house. However, when representatives from Microsoft found the footage on Clash’s YouTube page, they assumed it had come from the production house itself, and used the footage without double-checking that it was actually from Clash (even though the description on the video said Clash was “promoting” not “producing” the web series).

The fallout from this incident will likely be miniscule, but there could be some legal ramifications as the actors, director, and crew of Turn9 all belong to creative unions that require compensation for mass exposure. Microsoft has yet to officially comment on the situation, but the director of Turn9 has said in a statement that he holds no ill will towards Microsoft, because “I guess everyone’s just kind of screwed” by the situation.
