Founders of Sledgehammer Games Optimistic About Big Budget Titles

There has been a lot of speculation surrounding the future of the video game industry as of late, with people trying to pin down whether big budget releases will remain strong or if smaller-scale mobile will become the norm. However, those behind Sledgehammer Games certainly don’t seem too worried.

At the Game Developers Conference, both Michael Condrey and Glen Schofield sat down for a Q&A, where they discussed games like Call of Duty ’s place in the market moving forward. “I’m pretty optimistic. I think there’s always gotta be high-end video games. We see the demand. People are still buying them; people are still playing them…I just think there’s a place for that big blockbuster video game and you sit there with your 60-inch TV and you’ve got your speakers. You just gotta make sure it’s really high quality.” Said Schofield.

While Condrey touts the influx of the indie market (calling it a “dynamic time”), he does acknowledge that without a huge budget behind marketing your title, 2014 may not be as hopeful for some as it would be for others. “I fear that the middle ground is where it gets really tough.” He says.

Gamers should also be on the lookout for new C.o.D. news coming soon, as they tout that this year’s version could be the boldest ever.
