Game Makers Come Out in Support of Minecraft Sale

Game Makers Come Out in Support of Minecraft Sale

As they say, you can’t truly judge a man until you’ve walked a mile in his shoes. It would appear Minecraft creator “Notch” has now received support from his fellow peers within the industry (regarding his decision to hand-off his franchise).

Garry Newman (who is founder of Facepunch Studios and probably most well-known for “Garry’s Mod) took to his blog recently to state that, had he been given the opportunity, he too would have sold Minecraft off to Microsoft. “Long story short. I’d have done the same thing. The money is enough to very much take care of all the staff. The game is in relatively safe hands. Mojang’s legacy is as a huge success story instead of a one hit wonder. Everyone wins. Can you seriously say you’d have done it differently?” he asks.

Newman also believes the franchise is in good hands (after the $2.5 billion dollar buyout), stating Microsoft likely has every intent of taking care of the prime gaming real-estate that is Minecraft . “Whether or not Minecraft itself is “fucked” because it’s owned by Microsoft is debatable. I’m sure Microsoft didn’t just buy it because they’re struggling desperately to stay relevant and some of their kids play it a lot. But even if they did it really isn’t in their favor to pay a shitload of money for it and then completely fuck it up. That wouldn’t make any sense. Time will be the judge on that, I guess.” States Newman.

Interestingly enough, I already made this exact point just a few short days ago upon hearing the news that Microsoft had their eyes fixed on Mojang. Click here to read more!
