Games to Look Out For In May 2015

What? Video games are still coming out this May? I thought we were all taking a month off as we prepared for E3?

All kidding aside, the Summer Slump is in full swing these days, but May has a few really big name titles coming out that are set to make a major splash right before E3 season kicks off in earnest. So if you haven’t already been distracted by the shiny E3 promises of new games and tech, you can kick off your summer right with some of these titles.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

A huge open world? A dark a serious RPG plot? Weather effects and a constant time system, together with real time beard growing? What is not to love about The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt ? The persistent world of this game will change as you complete missions, shaping the in-game universe as you go. The game has been clocked at 100 hours for completion, making it one of the longest RPGs out there. If you have the time for an epic medieval quest, then hunt some monsters with Geralt in The Witcher 3.

Splatoon

Nintendo’s Splatoon is the company’s first real foray into the world of competitive shooters, and it’s looking pretty awesome so far. The main premise is that all of your guns are ink guns. Aside from scoring hits on the opponent, they also spread ink on walls and floors. You can turn into a squid and hide/travel through surfaces splattered with your ink, while it slows down the opposing team. This increases the functionality of any sort of gun. Shotguns create huge wall splatters. Rifles are powerful and long range but don’t splat the walls as much. There are even game modes where you control areas by painting them. It’s a fantastic take on the genre and worth a look, even if it doesn’t include voice chat.

Wolfenstein: The Old Blood

Wolfenstein: The Old Blood is about killing Nazis. Do you really need to know any more? You do? OK. Wolfenstein: The Old Blood is a standalone expansion based on Wolfenstein: The New Order . It takes place in 1946, prior to the events of New Order . You’ll fight robots, Nazis, and Lovecraftian horrors, and Nazis, and zombies, and Nazis and… OK, look. We all know what Wolfenstein games are about. If you are looking for brilliant multiplayer or a deep story, play Call of Duty or Bioshock . If you want to kill Nazis, then buy this game.

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2 Record Breaker

We usually don’t like putting remakes on these lists because it feels kind of cheap. After all, you don’t really “look out” for a remake because it’s already released on another platform. But Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2 Record Breaker has a lot of features, aside from its ludicrously long title. It contains an entire new story arc, with new characters and places to explore. It also includes characters from the popular anime series Durarara ! Which is kind of random, but still really cool. If you are a fan of the Megaten series, definitely give this game a try.

Life is Strange: Episode 3 – Chaos Theory

Finally, you always have the chapters from your favorite episodic games to look forward to. Life is Strange: Episode 3 continues the story of Max and Chloe as they dive deeper in what appears to be a strange conspiracy in the town. Max both has to infiltrate the Vortex Club in order to blow the whistle on a dangerous rich kid in school, and prevent the whole town from dying in a horrible tornado? What’s a small town girl to do?
