GameStop Looks to DLC Solution; Gets Biggest Non-Holiday Earnings Quarter on Record

None

GameStop confirmed today that they will soon start selling downloadable content at the their retail outlets throughout the U.S.

Increasingly, publishers are looking to get more out of their games by up-selling consumers post-purchase with premium additional content, and GameStop thinks brick and morter can also get the job done.

GameStop has been doing its best to adapt to changing market conditions, in order to keep its business intact.  Selling add-ons is yet another income stream they can take advantage of, strengthening their position further.

It seems GameStop’s in pretty strong shape, too.  Over a three month stretch, GameStop generated $2.08 billion — their biggest non-Holiday period ever.

According to a GameSpot report, “The company’s performance could be largely attributed to spiking new game sales, which were up more than 13 percent year-over-year on a lineup of big-name releases in March. GameStop singled out Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Final Fantasy XIII, God of War III, Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver, and February’s BioShock 2 as particularly strong sellers.”
