[Rumor] GameStop Will Apparently Force Shulk Amiibo to be Rare

[Rumor] GameStop Will Apparently Force Shulk Amiibo to be Rare

It’s reported that video game retailer, GameStop, will be the only store that’ll exclusively sell amiibos of the Xenoblade Chronicles character Shulk, and it’s believed that this particular amiibo will be one of the more popular amiibos in the third wave of products that are anticipated to launch in February next year.

However, according to a recently surfaced rumor, GameStop is planning to capitalize on the demand for this particular amiibo’s anticipated popularity, and so the retailer will apparently be raising the prices of the products as well as selling new products as “used”.

The rumor in question stems from a supposed leak that originated from a GameStop manager who also leaked the release date of Super Smash Bros. to Nintendo News a month ahead of the game’s launch. According to this unnamed manager, there will only be enough Shulk amiibo stock to match the amount of pre-orders for the product with no tolerance at all; no more, no less. The idea of this is to make the Shulk amiibo rare as well as to drive up demand.

Hello. You may remember me as the GameStop manager who first tipped you off about the November 21 release date for Smash Bros . I may have another insider story that I feel people should know about. As you likely know, GameStop will be exclusively selling the Shulk amiibo next year, ” the manager told Nintendo News.

From what I’ve heard, we will only be getting enough amiibo to exactly match the number of pre-orders—no more, no less. The idea is to keep the figure rare, increasing its market value and driving up demand. Then, several months later, we will receive a second shipment to sell as “used” for a marked-up price.

To date, this unnamed manager has never offered proof of their employment to Nintendo News when asked. Without much validation to this  person’s legitimacy, this rumor could be very much just that: a rumor.

We’ll bring you more news on this should further information reach our ears.
