Rumor Has It NES Classic Production’s Ending

Rumor Has It NES Classic Production’s Ending

Well, this is something else. The NES Classic Mini, the most recent example of Nintendo doing everything it can to not meet demand for a popular product, might be ending production well before it should. NeoGAF, infamous hotbed of videogame rumors, offered up this rumor from a poster claiming to work at a “large Nordic retailer.” The user says Nintendo’s distributor, Bergsala, has sent out word to retailers that the NES Classic Mini has reached the end of life stage and production has ceased.

There are allegedly enough units left for a few more shipments through April and May, but after that, the elusive device is done. This is happening, mind you, as the NES Classic remains ludicrously difficult to find.. That is, outside of dropping several times the normal retail price on secondhand markets.

Since the rumor broke. Spillsjappa, another Norwegian retailer, confirmed the rumor independently on Facebook . It’s also worth noting most of the recent rumors about Nintendo hardware production have more or less come to fruition. However, equally important is how this news so far is coming from Nordic sources. This could mean the NES Classic Mini is continuing elsewhere, although that doesn’t make much sense.

That said, when have Nintendo’s production decisions ever made sense? I’m having Super Smash Bros. Amiibo flashbacks right now.
