Details About NX Memory Emerge

Dudes and dudettes, the rumor mill is operating at full strength and I’m beginning to think that Nintendo is somewhere in its depths, shoveling coal into a furnace to give it more juice. There are so many little details and rumors springing up that I just know we’re due for a big reveal of some kind this year at E3. Today I have one tiny detail to share with you about memory, and then another really exciting rumor.

First up: Macronix will be providing memory products for the NX. Macronix is a tech company that focuses on non-volatile memory (think ROM and flash). In the past Nintendo and Macronix have worked together, and the latter produced memory hardware for DS and 3DS cartridges. An enthusiastic NeoGAF member has translated a recent quarterly results conference call during which the Macronix president stated that they would be providing memory products for the NX this year. We don’t yet know the exact nature of the hardware or what kind of capacity the NX will boast, and that’s boring, but I have a juicy bonus rumor for sticking around!

For our second rumor – follow Dr. Serkan Toto on Twitter if you don’t already. He’s CEO of Tokyo-based consultancy firm Kantan Games, and his insight is actually worth something. When he says he’s heard something from a reliable source, he means it. Yesterday he tweeted that Bandai Namco was working on several titles for the NX and that Smash Bros might even be a launch title, though he said he couldn’t confirm whether it would be a new Smash or not. Personally, I’d be totally fine with an “enhanced edition” of the Wii U Smash with all of the DLC included, but we’ll have to wait to see how that turns out.
