GDC 2011: Steam Guard Security Features Introduced

None

Though the Steam video game delivery service has not had too many security issues in the past, it looks like the folks at Valve are taking some preemptive measures to make sure security never becomes a problem with the launch of a new “Steam Guard” feature. This feature allows you to set a computer as your “primary” device, and that device will be the only one you can use to change account details. Though you can use other machines to play Steam games, you won’t be able to change your payment or user information while at these remote locations when this feature is enabled.

In addition to the location-based safety measures, Steam Protection also uses Intel’s Identity Protection Technology, which will notify you when a remote machine attempts to access or change your Steam information.
