Get Points For Not Playing Your Games

None

Think of all the time you have wasted on Farmville. You could have devoted that time to having incredible experiences, writing a novel, getting into shape, or even helping to improve the human race. No one knows this better than the developers of new game Tinkatolli. Like Farmville, Tinkatolli is a browser-based game that operates in a pseudo-simulation/MMO style, but Tinkatolli actually is attempting to encourage players to go out and do something other than play videogames.

In the game, players will control “Tinkas” which are basically tiny creatures that have a gnomish like desire to put things together. The game world is littered with trash, and the purpose of the game is to clean up the world and turn that trash into useful objects. Now here’s the catch: All of the things your character can do, you can do in real life. If you make a working lamp with a light bulb, battery, and wire in the game, you’ll be given the plans to do so in the real world. If you complete a real world project, you can take a picture of it and upload it to a scrapbook, which will give you extra points in game. Essentially, the best way to get ahead in the game is to do things outside of the game.

Tinkatolli is still in development, but the creators are currently looking to raise funds to get an open beta started. The question is: Will kids play this game when they could be shooting people in the face in Call of Duty?
