Guacamelee Developer Announces Brand New Project: Severed

Guacamelee Developer Announces Brand New Project: Severed

Drinbox Studios, the guys behind the awesome 2D brawler, Guacamelee , are working on a new project for mobile platforms. The game is called Severed , and is a bizarre gesture based combat game with a focus on cutting off your opponent’s body parts and attaching them to your own.

The game is kind of an open world game. You travel the world, looking for foes to fight and grow more powerful. Battle is completely touch based. Simple swipes allow you to swing a weapon, while complex gestures activate special abilities. You start with just a weapon and your guts to drive you, but as you defeat enemies you can attach their severed body parts to yourself in order to become more powerful and get new abilities. Drinkbox calls the game a mixture of Mega Man , Infinity Blade , and Punch Out!!

Severed will not be a game simply for the realm of mobile phones and tablets. Drinkbox is looking to bring the game to any platform that would support the game’s touch control scheme. This includes the Vita, 3DS, Wii U, and even motion control platforms like the PlayStation Move and Kinect. They even are tossing around ideas about making the game work with Sony’s new Virtual Reality headset, Project Morpheus.

Severed is planned to release in 2015.
