Hail To The King Once More

Hail To The King Once More

None

In the years since Duke Nukem 3D, we have seen a handful of titles released that star the foul-mouthed, attitude-as-big-as-his-gun Duke Nukem. Aping lines from Evil Dead and always finding himself surrounded by a surplus of asses and not enough bubblegum, Duke was put through the ringer with sub-par third person shooters, handheld ports of his most famous adventure, and a surprisingly fun side-scrolling shooter in the form of Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project. Through all of this, gamers awaited the next great Duke Nukem first-person shooter, the long-promised and rarely seen Duke Nukem Forever.

As of today, that wait is over.

Years of cancellations, over a decade of work on a single title that has been ported from engine to engine and shifted from publisher to publisher until, finally, Gearbox put its muscle behind it and pushed it out the door. While it won’t be available in North America for another four days, the title is out, now, internationally, and Duke fans worldwide can once more embrace the character’s crude humor, his unique appeal, and his game’s visceral violence.

Duke Nukem Forever is here, incredible though that may be. An entire genre of gaming humor has been laid to rest.
