Duke Nukem Forever Goes Gold

Duke Nukem Forever Goes Gold

None

After almost fifteen years locked in development, Duke Nukem Forever is finally finished. It’s ready to be shipped on June 14 in North America and June 10 internationally, with a “first access” demo out on June 3.

The game has a storied history, originally designed for the Quake II engine before being scrapped and switched to the first Unreal engine. The game’s development persisted through changes in publisher, the absorption of developer 3D Realms into Take-Two Interactive, and constant doubt from both fans and critics that the title would ever see release. It was pegged instead as a case of over-hyped vaporware.

In 2009, with the game nearing completion, funding ran dry and the studio was forced to suspend development on May 6, 2009. The staff for the game was laid off two days later. The following year, Gearbox signed on as the publisher for the long-awaited shooter, officially announcing it at the Penny Arcade Expo on September 3, 2010. As of now, developer Triptych Games has finished its work on the title, and Gearbox will soon bring the game to store shelves and digital distribution services worldwide.

Duke Nukem Forever will be released on the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
