Hal Laboratories Eager To Develop 3D Kirby Game

In an interview with vg247, Kirby Triple Deluxe director Shinya Kumazaki, alluded to his hopes for a Kirby game set in a 3D world, something akin to the Super Mario Galaxy games. Since Triple Deluxe will feature enemies that attack the player from the background, the idea is one that is becoming less foreign to the longtime Kirby developer, Hal Laboratories.

In Kirby: Triple Deluxe , most of the stages go back into the screen, and so what we’ve created is a new side scrolling action game where enemies come at you not just from back within the screen but also from at the front of it too! We think this area has a lot of potential for expanding on in the future,” says Kumazaki.

Between the experiences with Kirby: Triple Delux , and the free roaming “City Trial” mode in Kirby Air Ride, it’s easy to see how a new dimension to Kirby could work.

“Of course, we’re also continuing to evolve the Kirby series as a whole, and I hope that one of our next challenges will be to produce a Kirby game in full 3D that still maintains the same depth of play our fans have come to expect,” concluded Kumazaki.
