As reported by GameSpot , it was revealed during a panel at PAX East that Gearbox Software that the Collector’s Edition of Homeworld Remastered will include a 12-inch, hand decorated, molded ABS resin model of the Mothership–the staple of the main Homeworld series–that’ll also feature LED lights. However, Gearbox’s marketing director Steve Gibson has stated that the Collector’s Edition will be extremely limited in numbers; only a few thousand units will be produced.
Information on the Collector’s Edition was detailed on Homeworld Remastered’s official website , where a survey asked which version of the Collector’s Edition people would prefer. Both versions included a model of the Mothership, one of which was a six-inch, die cast zinc alloy model with a brushed metal finish, and the other is the 12-inch model. The 12-inch model was the winning preference.
The Collector’s Edition, included with the 12-inch Mothership model, is estimated $100; so far Gearbox has said nothing on the final price on the product. While the Collector’s Edition itself is not finalized and could change without warning, the current proposed base product includes an artbook, a game manual, some key chains and game codes for both Homeworld and Homeworld 2 .
During the panel, Gibson and Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford gave insight that creating Homeworld Remastered Collector’s Edition cost the studio a lot of money. Pitchford hopes that that Gearbox will break even from the sales of the product, and Gibson revealed that the studio spent an “irresponsible amount” of money to create the product.
Gearbox Software initially announced that it would be bringing remade versions of Homeworld and Homeworld 2 to steam at PAX Australia last year. The project was later renamed from Homeworld HD to Homeworld Remastered to reflect the project’s scale of development of being beyond a simple HD re-release.
