Inti Creates, the developer behind the fantastic Azure Striker Gunvolt and not-so-fantastic Mighty No. 9 , has announced its latest project: a revival of NES classic Blaster Master . The new title, Blaster Master Zero , is a Nintendo 3DS exclusive that builds upon the original game with fresh new features. These include new areas and bosses, extra sub-weapons, refined gameplay when you’re not piloting the game’s signature SOPHIA 3rd tank, expanded exploration elements, a reworked scenario, and more.
The original Blaster Master was a side-scrolling adventure game that stood as one of the first examples of the “Metroidvania” genre. The game told the story of robotic engineer Jason, who discovered an alien creature and followed it into a subterranean world deeply connected to the history of humanity. Zero has a similar premise, though it will be significantly expanded for this new generation.
While Blaster Master Zero looks like a remake rather than a brand new game, it’s substantial enough that even Blaster Master veterans will have plenty of new content to experience. You’ll be able to find out for yourself when the game releases in Spring 2017 on the Nintendo eShop.
