Is Sony Making a “The Last of Us” Movie?

On November 25, two new domain names were registered pointing toward what appears to be a The Last of Us movie. The domain names were TheLasTofusMovie.net and TheLasTofus-Movie.com and they were both registered under a Sony Pictures -mail. Could this mean that we will see a The Last of Us movie sometime soon?

Well, there are plenty of arguments for and against this theory. It’s rather comon practice to register domain names just to protect your IP. After all, you don’t want a domain name with your IP in it used to sell discount furniture or amateur porn or something. It’s entirely possible that is what Sony is doing here, but the specific formatting of the domain names has led some analysts to think otherwise.

Sony has said that The Last of Us was the fastest selling new IP on the PS3, having sold over 3.4 million units in just one month after its release. It recieved almost univerally good reviews and is on several “best game of the year” lists. Quite frankly, it’s a very powerful IP and would do well as a movie.

What do you think? Is this just another instance of Sony protecting it’s IP, or will we be going to see Joel and Ellie on the big screen in a couple years? Let us know in the comments and, heck, let us know who you think would be good casting choices for Joel and Ellie while you are at it!
