Is Terminator Genisys a Reboot or a Sequel?

Is Terminator Genisys a Reboot or a Sequel?

When the announcement was made that a new Terminator flick was in the works, the first question on many people’s minds was whether or not this entry would reboot the series or continue the previous storyline.

While actor Jai Courtney (who plays future solider and John Connor’s Father Kyle Reese) did attempt to clear the air, I’m not sure he completely accomplished his goal. Courtney told the Huffington Post the movie opens “…in a place we’re familiar with from the early films and then, you know, circumstances change. It somewhat shifts the course of events from that point. It’s not necessarily a sequel or a reboot. I don’t even know how you brand it correctly. We’re not remaking one of the early ‘ Terminator ’ movies. And it doesn’t necessarily carry on from the point where we left off.”

The cast will be a mix of new and old faces, as Terminator alumni Arnold Schwarzenegger has been confirmed to return. When asked if we could expect the franchise-staple to be seen in the future (no pun intended), Courtney says it’s hard to “…imagine a Terminator film without Arnold…I think the plan is do the next 2 back to back in 2016.”

Terminator Genesys is set to hit theaters this summer and stars Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke in the role of Sarah Connor.
