It’s Time for More Dragon Quest

It’s Time for More Dragon Quest

By now, you’ve all heard the news. Dragon Quest is coming back to consoles in the States. Square Enix is taking a chance and localizing Dragon Quest Heroes for the PS4. It’s an exciting thing, and not because it means another PS4 game for people to enjoy. It’s also big because it means Square Enix is willing to take a chance on Dragon Quest in the West again, and we really need more of those. Really, because there are so many 3DS games waiting in the wings for us to enjoy.

What we really need is the Dragon Quest VII remake. Dragon Warrior VII for the original PlayStation sells for $50-$70 on eBay, and that’s without the remake’s greatly improved graphics and gameplay. We deserve a chance to play that game, where you venture outside a lone island and eventually restore an entire world. The 3DS remake would be very much appreciated, especially since the DS saw remakes of the fourth, fifth, and sixth installments. JRPGs are making a comeback, the New 3DS XL is out, so why not sell some more systems with a Dragon Quest VII localization?

Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime 3 would be another good localization choice, and I’m not just saying that so someone I know will stop attempting to convince me to import the Japanese version. It follows The Legend of Zelda formula, with players controlling a heroic slime as he battles other slimes and monsters. This time, there are tanks and ships available to carry out attacks, and I’ve heard it’s quite entertaining to shove anything and everything into a tank or ship cannon to blast at opponents. A cheerful game spearheaded by an iconic character seems like it would be a surefire win here.

Another Dragon Quest spinoff would do even better. Theatrhythm Dragon Quest is coming to Japan on March 26, 2015. Even though the series doesn’t have the same following here, Theatrhythm does. People fell in love with the Final Fantasy entries. I’m confident they’d pick up another game in the series, even if they weren’t familiar with all of the titles from which the songs originated. Good music is good music, and the gameplay would likely guarantee another success.

It’s Time for More Dragon Quest

Even Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry’s Wonderland would be a welcome addition to the 3DS game lineup. It’s probably the least exciting of the games I’ve mentioned thus far, but the people who enjoyed Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker and Joker 2 would appreciate a chance to catch iconic monsters again. Especially since they could transfer their save data over from the DS game and enjoy using their favorite minions again. The online multiplayer would only make things better.

Square Enix has a fantastic series waiting in the wings. Dragon Quest is a beloved franchise. If people had the opportunity to acquire these games, I’m confident the series would get the appreciation it deserves. If the company is willing to take a chance on Dragon Quest Heroes , then we should support that game, respectfully voice our desires, and hope this could be an indication that the company would be willing to consider granting us games like Dragon Quest VII and Theatrhythm Dragon Quest .
