Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation Cheats & Cheat Codes for SNES, Nintendo Switch, and More

Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation is a 1988 RPG developed by Chunsoft and published by Enix. The game was released on a wide variety of platforms, beginning on the NES, but later coming to the SNES, Game Boy Color, mobile devices, Nintendo 3DS, Switch, and PlayStation 4 in recent years.

Upon its release, Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation was an enormous hit. It sold over 1 million copies on its first day, and went on to sell over 3.8 million copies just on the original NES. Reviews at the time were strong, if not quite exceptional. However, its reputation and legacy have continued to grow over the years, especially as it has continued to be rereleased on modern consoles.

At the center of Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation, you’ll find many of the principles that modern RPGs are built on. The main gameplay loop surrounds turn-based combat in which you earn XP by defeating enemies with your chosen equipment, while exploring an open world and finding new items.

As the Hero, you get to pick and choose the team around you, balancing them perfectly for the game’s combat system. Each of these characters has a class of your choice, giving you a ton of choice for how you approach the game. The overall goal of Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation is to finish the main quest, although there are a ton of side quests to complete, too. What makes this title unique is that it is the first game in the series to introduce a day/night cycle. This isn’t purely visual too – it’s incorporated into the gameplay well. For example, some quests are only available to you at certain times of day.

The Dragon Quest lore is extremely deep, with fans of the series having almost four decades to get used to their favorite characters. As one of the earlier entries into the series, Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation does a great job at continuing to flesh out that lore with its own cast of characters. While some of the main characters would only appear in this game, others, namely the villains, went on to appear in multiple titles and become staples of the series.

  • The Hero: Just turned 16 years old, the Hero seeks permission from the King to set off on an adventure that would see them finish their father’s mission to defeat Zoma and Baramos.
  • Ortega: Ortega is the father of the Hero. He has had his own duels with Zoma and Baramos over the years, and now his child seeks the same adventure.
  • Zoma: Zoma is the final boss of Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation, as well as the Lord of the Underworld. His only weakness is the Sphere of Light.
  • Baramos: Baramos is an underling of Zoma, and one of the main villains of the game. He has ambitions to rule the entire world, which the Hero must be a stop to.

The Dragon Quest series has a long history dating back almost four decades now. It is one of the longest-running JRPG series out there, rivaling the likes of Final Fantasy. While the first few years brought a bunch of mainline games in the series, the years since have seen main entries become much rarer. Instead, the gaps have been filled with spinoff series such as Dragon Quest Monsters and Slime. This has allowed the developers of the series to make a brand-new Dragon Quest game feel like an event, and really innovate on past iterations of the series.

Given the series’ longevity and enduring popularity, it’s hard to see a world where Dragon Quest goes anywhere anytime soon. A twelfth main entry into the series titled The Flames of Fate has already been announced, with no release date currently given.

Unfortunately, like some other NES games of the era, Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation suffers from a complete lack of cheat codes in the base game. This is perhaps unusual for an RPG, where there is potential for cheats to do a bunch of different things. Despite this, we’ve still got one way that you can cheat in Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation.

As an alternative, you can use community-made Game Genie cheats if you’re playing the game on an emulator. However, these particular cheats only work on the SNES version of the game via an emulator such as Snes9x. It must also be the Japanese version, known as Dragon Quest III: Soshite Densetsu e… for these cheats to work. However, they do allow a good amount of customization, so they’re worth using in our opinion!

How Do I Enter Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation Game Genie Cheats?

So, you’ve got the Japanese SNES version of Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation and want to use some cheats? Well, entering Game Genie cheats for this game is simple. We’re assuming that you’re using an SNES emulator such as Snes9x for this process.

Enter these codes by locating the Cheats section of your emulator (for Snes9x, this is Cheat > Game Genie, Pro Action Replay Codes). Some emulators require you to specify that you’re using a Game Genie code, while others recognize it out of the box. Most SNES emulators will work immediately with these types of code, so it shouldn’t prove too much of an issue.
