It’s Madden time!
One of the first ever football video games to ever be released, John Madden Football is the start of a long football journey. First released back in 1988, this game has many features that weren’t found in other games. This game, in retrospect, is very much the “prototype” of what is to come.
Players could choose field conditions, password-protect games, and had additional features.
John Madden Football Premise
The goal is simple — there’s only one team you have to beat, the A.I. Other than that…well, it’s a sports game, there is no “plot” to speak of. That said, nothing is stopping you from crafting your plot about why various teams are playing against each other.

Surprisingly, there are no actual NFL teams in this game. Nada, none. To be clear, this was before Madden had the licensing rights to the NFL.
