Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part II has proven divisive in the gaming community for a lot of reasons, but there’s no getting around the fact it’s a success. From its high review scores to its early sales numbers, this is one for the record books. In fact, the game has already broken a record previously held by Marvel’s Spider-Man. Breaching over 4 million sales in just its first couple of days on the market, The Last of Us Part II is Sony’s new fastest-selling game. No doubt the pandemic is a factor, as video game sales in general have blown up over the spring and into the summer.
Ubisoft Suspends Executives and More in Response to Sexual Misconduct and Harassment Allegations ( via Bloomberg )
Social media was on fire last week, as a series of allegations (in yet another games industry “Me Too Moment” surged throughout the gaming community. Among the allegations, several high-profile members of Ubisoft were accused of various forms of abuse. Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier reported that Ubisoft has responded to these allegations with an internal review, as well as a third-party investigation. The employees involved, two of which being executives Tommy François and Maxime Béland, have been suspended while the investigation proceeds.
Marvel’s Avengers Comes With a Free Next-Gen Upgrade (via Press Release)
While the details on Microsoft’s Smart Delivery are only just trickling out, and similar systems on the PlayStation 5 haven’t been detailed yet, some third party publishers are getting ahead and offering their own next-gen update strategies. This includes Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics’ Marvel’s Avengers , which is out for current-gen platforms in September. Folks who buy the game on PS4 or Xbox One will be able to upgrade to the respective Xbox Series X or PS5 versions for free once they launch later in the year. Players will also be able to play together across platform generations, although that feature is restricted by console family.
