In the past, id Software has created some of the most iconic IPs in the industry. This includes titles such as Quake, Doom, and Wolfenstein 3D, which essentially created the first-person shooter genre. With the company continuing to support these franchises with sequels and soon adding their first new IP in a decade, Rage, to the list, when will the next new IP be coming from the company?  According to an Official PlayStation Magazine interview with John Carmack (via CVG), fans of id may be waiting a long time. Carmack states “We do already have more IPs than we can exploit.” He continues “I doubt we’re going to do another IP. It’s scary to say it, but maybe not in the next decade even, because we want to support Wolfenstein, Doom and Quake – and hopefully we can add Rage onto that – and I don’t want five teams here. Three is scary enough.” While this is great news for the fans of their previous series, it will be hard for many to wait another ten or more years to see the next original title from the studio. |
