Mass Effect 3 Petition Raises $45,000 for Charity

None

A while back, we reported on a fan campaign to change Mass Effect 3’s rather sobering ending . A petition was started that raised over 20,000 signatures in a few days. At the time, we didn’t think that this petition would make much of a difference. However, we were wrong. This petition is making a big difference, just not in the world of video game design.

Instead, the faithful masses of Mass Effect fans have joined together with Child’s Play to start a donation drive. The drive, entitled “Retake Mass Effect”, has already raised over $45,000 for charity. They hope that they can show BioWare that the Mass Effect fan base is serious about getting this game changed. They are asking for a more complete explanation of the ending, an explanation wrap-up that details what happened to different planets, races, and companions, and a more heroic ending that gives a better sense of accomplishment rather than an inevitable sense of defeat.

“We would like to dispel the perception that we are angry or entitled,” the group said. “We simply wish to express our hope that there could be a different direction for a series we have all grown to love.”

To be completely honest, it’s unlikely that any of these efforts will actually cause BioWare to change the ending of the game, but anything that results in money being donated to a charity like Child’s Play is okay in my book.
