Mega Man 3 Summary
Mega Man 3 is a well-known game beloved by many. Or angered many, either one! First released on the NES, Nintendo Entertainment System, on September 8th, 1990, this game saw many new features that would become staples of the game including the slide mechanic, which players use to get past in-game hazards or avoid attacks. It is also the longest game in the series, with over 18 stages in total. For reference, Mega Man 2 had a mere 8 stages.
The game was met with critical and commercial success, though not quite on par with Mega Man 2.
But, sadly, series creator, Keiji Inafune, said this was his least favorite Mega Man game, most likely due to the strict development cycle and the game being overcomplicated.
Mega Man 3 Premise
Taking place two to three months after the events of Mega Man 2, all seems to be at peace. With Dr. Willy’s dreams of world domination dashed twice over, he claims to be reformed and is heading off into space to work on a new project, a peacekeeping robot named “Gamma.” Along with various Robot Masters, who are there to “help” him with gathering resources for his project. Naturally, you are sent to investigate the Robot Masters and defeat them.
Along the way, Mega Man continually clashes against the mysterious Break Man, who rivals Mega Man in every way…
Mega Man 3 Main Characters
Mega Man. The title and player character! You know the Blue Bomber from his legacy that spans across many games! He’s still a bit of a rookie here, but make no mistake, he’s still the most dangerous bot around.
Dr. Light. Mega Man’s creator/father. A kindly man who just wants the world to be at peace, but sees far too much conflict for it.
Roll. She’s not much of a fighter and more of a little sister. But make no mistake, Roll is very much part of the team, as she is the most grounded one of them all.
Dr. Willy. Rivaled only by Dr. Light and Dr. Eggman of Sonic fame as one of gaming’s most nefarious inventors. Dr. Willy has created many Robot Masters over the years, and he will likely make more!
Rush. Mega Man’s trusty dog!
Proto Man. Also known as Blues, Proto Man is the “First” Mega Man. Made when Dr. Light was still working out the kinks. Hence the name, Proto.
Magnet Man. He fires magnets out of his hand, but electricity tends to undo him.
Gemini Man. Gemini Man is a pair of highly narcissistic robots.
Hard Man. The heaviest of them all! Hard Man is one of the few who can take a hit.
Top Man. More dangerous in the cartoon than he is here.
Snake Man. Built to navigate difficult terrain and be as stealthy as his namesake. And no, Snake Man does not have an eyepatch.
Spark Man. A ditz, a fool, and somehow one of the most dangerous ones.
Shadow Man. It is unknown where this robot master comes from, or, indeed, who built him in the first place. All we know is that he is a ninja, and he is just as quick as Quick Man ever was.
Break Man. He seems oddly familiar. Wonder why?
Gamma. This “peacekeeping” robot was made to help with natural disasters, earthquakes, fires, and the like. Dr. Willy has other plans for this enormous machine though…
