Mega Man X Hits iOS With New Features

Mega Man X Hits iOS With New Features

None

Normally, I get pretty excited when a classic game gets brought to a new platform, and Mega Man X is one of the most beloved classic platformers ever made. In theory, Mega Man X coming to the iPhone app store couldn’t possibly be a bad thing, right? Well, Capcom has announced a whole bunch of features that weren’t in the SNES version, and one of them in particular makes me a little nervous about the port.

Here are the features, according to yesterday’s press release:

  • A full-screen mode that zooms in the action to the iPhone screen.

  • iOS-only options including auto-fire, auto-charge, and auto-ladder latch on.

  • An easy mode that adds platforms over spikes and pits to allow easy progression through the game.

  • A real-money store that allows you to pay cold hard cash for things like subtanks, armor pieces, boss weapons, and more without actually having to acquire them.

The game is only five dollars, and if you want to play Mega Man X on the road, this is certainly your best option. Still, being able to pay real money to get awesome in-game items leaves a bad taste in my retro gaming mouth.
