Michael Douglas Cast Opposite Paul Rudd in Ant-Man

Michael Douglas Cast Opposite Paul Rudd in Ant-Man

Some very huge casting news for a very “tiny” Marvel character, as Michael Douglas will now be joining the cast of the upcoming Ant-Man .

Paul Rudd was recently confirmed as Scott Lang (the second Ant-Man) and it looks as if we’ll see Douglas taking up the mantle Henry Pym (the original). Kevin Feige, President Marvel Studios, had this to say about the casting news, “With Hank Pym’s rich history in the Marvel Universe, we knew we needed an actor capable of bringing the weight and stature to the role that the character deserves. We felt incredibly relieved when Michael Douglas agreed to step into the part with the charm and fortitude he brings to every character he inhabits, and couldn’t be more excited to see what he will do to bring Hank Pym to life.”

Douglas is still considered a Hollywood powerhouse after long and storied career. He also just recently won a Golden Globe for his performance as Liberace in Behind the Candelabra . Regarding the Pym role, Douglas said, “I’ve been dying to do a Marvel picture for so long. The script is really fun, the director is really good…Sometimes – like when they didn’t see you for Liberace – you’ve got to shake them up a little bit and have some fun.”

Ant-Man is directed by Edgar Wright and will hit theaters in July of 2015.
