Microsoft Looks to Expand Xbox LIVE Further; ESPN 360 Coming to Xbox 360?

None

A New York Times article penned by Brian Stetler, which was largely written to inform the truly uninformed, did reveal a couple solid-though-unconfirmed bits about the expansion of Xbox LIVE for those of us that are better plugged in.

Apparently, representatives from Miscrosoft and Disney, according to unnamed sources mentioned in the report, have been in talks in order to bring streaming content to Xbox 360. More specifically, ESPN could stream sporting events through LIVE much like they do already through ESPN 360 – an apropos name to say the least.

The article stated, “For a per-subscriber fee, ESPN could provide live streams of sporting events, similar to the ones available through ESPN 360, a service that is available from some high-speed Internet providers. Microsoft could also create some interactive games in association with ESPN, the people said, although a deal has not yet been struck.”

Whether the “per-subscriber fee means access will be extended gratis to LIVE Gold members, or if a separate add-on will have to be purchased, is still up in the air. Microsoft and Disney have both declined to comment, as it is still considered rumor and speculation.
