It was announced today that Microsoft Game Studios has acquired BigPark for both current and future gaming projects.

According to IGN’s Eric Brudvig, based in Vancouver, BigPark was founded in 2007 by former Disney Interactive Software and Electronic Arts employees. BigPark is best known for their contributions to such gaming franchises as Need for Speed and FIFA.

Currently, the development studio has been hard at work on an unannounced property with Microsoft Game Studios over the past year. This IP will be introduced to the gaming industry at large at E3 2009.

General Manager of Microsoft Game Studios, Phil Spencer, elaborated on the partnership,”We are delighted by the opportunity to welcome the BigPark team into Microsoft Game Studios. The team is composed of some of the most experienced and creative minds working in the industry today. The combination of the BigPark and Microsoft Game Studios talent pools will be an accelerant for growth and innovation. We believe BigPark has tremendous potential to create new properties and innovative gaming experiences for our platforms, one of which we’re looking forward to showcasing at the E3 Expo in June.”
