Minecraft Gets Upgraded to 1.7

Minecraft Gets Upgraded to 1.7

None

Minecraft, the extremely popular indie game that lets players endlessly build a blocky world, got a new patch today, updating the game to version 1.7. It’s a small update, but it includes one feature fans have been clamoring about for quite some time now—pistons. This versatile block allows for some very interesting building. For example, building a piston under a wood or stone block will cause that block to rise. This can be used to make bridges that rise up from the ground once you pull a lever. Huzzah!

There are a couple fairly minor tweaks in this update as well. Punching sheep no longer causes them to drop wool, but shears have been added to keep the woolgatherers happy. Shears will allow players to collect wool without harming sheep. PETA should definitely approve of the lack of sheep-punching this will cause.

Additionally, TNT now requires redstone or fire in order to be set off, and fences can be stacked. Players will no longer need to exploit the game in order to build fences more than one layer high.

The Adventure Update, originally scheduled for version 1.7, has been pushed back to 1.8. It was decided that fans shouldn’t have to wait until the Adventure Update to be able to use pistons without modding their games.
