Minecraft: Wii U Edition won’t have the One Thing People Want

Minecraft: Wii U Edition won’t have the One Thing People Want

When a game like Minecraft , which relies so heavily upon the placing of blocks, crafting of items, and management of inventory comes to a system like the Wii U, what’s the one thing you expect from the release? Keep in mind, this is a console where one of the main selling points is a GamePad controller with a touch screen. You’ve figured it out, right? You expect touch screen controls. Sorry, but it isn’t happening.

Owen Hill, Mojang’s Director of Creative Communications, delivered the bad news via Twitter . When someone asked if the GamePad would be used for inventory management in the Minecraft: Wii U Edition , Hill said that wouldn’t be happening. Instead, the GamePad is only for off-screen play.

This is a huge disappointment and, frankly, removes one of the biggest incentives from the Minecraft: Wii U Edition . Getting touch screen controls designed specifically for the full version of the game would have been great, and it seems like Mojang has let people down. That, combined with a $29.99 price that’s $10 more than any other version (thanks the the game coming bundled with $10 of DLC), could scare many people away.
